Modern terms for old habits

For some time now, terms have been coined on the web to describe certain attitudes that seem to be gaining ground. These attitudes on some sites are defined as trendy but they are not new behaviors.

Technology allows us to communicate at great distance but inevitably sometimes it happens that it takes us away from the awareness that there is a human being on the other side. For this reason, things that we would never dream of doing or saying, are becoming more and more popular, becoming part of the way of doing of an increasing number of people.

GHOSTING

It ‘a term that indicates when a person disappears completely. He doesn’t answer your cell phone, doesn’t respond to your messages, doesn’t hang out with you anymore, blocks you on social networks or various messaging services. This way of doing things deserves the first place in our ranking because it is the one considered the worst. Those who are abandoned in this way, tend to suffer more than a person who is abandoned in the healthy and traditional way because the mind gets crowded with questions that will never be answered. It is assumed that GHOSTING is done out of cowardice, lack of consideration and disrespect. Sometimes this attitude is followed by others.

SUBMARINING

After being abandoned and after falling into depression for a period of time, it may happen that the person who destroyed you reappears like a submarine emerging from the waters. They normally show up with trivial, flimsy excuses or simply without giving any explanation. It is an attitude that is considered particularly negative but is not new in interpersonal relationships.

ZOMBIEING

Similar to SUBMARINING, it occurs when a person who had disappeared reappears after a long time. The difference lies in the fact that, since a lot of time has passed, the psyche may lead you to believe that it was meant to be, and thus it could have a very powerful impact on feelings. In folklore beliefs in fact zombies return from beyond the grave and feed on the brain.

HOUNTING

This is a practice that is generally applied by exes to make sure that they are not completely forgotten. An example would be a like or a friendly comment on a social network. Again, the hunter can pursue his prey even without the aid of social networking. A clear example would be an ex who keeps calling or communicating using excuses. The victim then may not be able to break away from that relationship and in fact these attitudes, could create problems within a new relationship. The difference between HOUNTING and STALKING is that in the first case, the hunter has the tendency to be very careful so that their attitudes seem innocent and without ulterior motives, in the second case, the stalker instead does not care.

BREADCRUMBING

This is the practice of metaphorically throwing bait on the ground in order to be followed by an animal. This behavior is practiced by people eager for attention. It is made to believe to a determined person, or very often to a group of persons (almost always of the other sex) to be interested to them (without being it) spreading around of the small clues. It can be done either on the network via social and instant messaging or in person. There are also many other much older names for such people but we will refrain in this article out of a sense of decency.

BENCHING

It is similar to BREADCRUMBING but with the substantial difference that is immediately apparent. It is a real hopeful romantic type. There are many ways to bench a person and they change based on the personality of the person. There are those who bench people as reserves to have a future relationship should they be needed, those who bench a lover and use him or her when needed, or even there are those who bench multiple people because you never know, a little variety is always nice. Usually these are people who are afraid to be alone or just don’t know how to be.

STASHING

This practice is also quite old. It involves people compartmentalizing their lives. When they are in a relationship with someone, they tend not to introduce them to their friends or loved ones, never post pictures together on social media, and actually hide your existence for some reason. One of the reasons could be that they want to be free to date someone else or they are in another official relationship or they are ashamed of you. They basically keep you separate from the rest of their lives and you are minor satellites.

PHUBBING

Sometimes it happens that in a relationship, there is one of the two who complains of being particularly neglected because of the other person’s commitments and interests. These are the kind of individuals who always have something more important to do than spend time chatting with the person they say they love. This word specifically, however, defines this pattern of behavior by referring it solely and exclusively to the cell phone.

KITTENFISHING

When someone creates fake profiles to attract someone online it’s called CATFISHING, if instead the person exaggerates about their qualities with the intention of appearing better than they are to attract someone it’s called KITTENFISHING. It could be an example an impassioned of airplane models that says to be an aeronautical engineer, a person that makes to be photographed while it makes a turn on a tourist airplane rented with the friends and says to be a pilot. Braggers of the net in short, you would be surprised however to know how many people fall for it.

In short

There are many other terms and others will surely arise but these are the most common. Has it ever happened to you? Personally, I have known someone who has applied pretty much all of these in one way or another.
