What is Black Friday

Every fourth Thursday in November is celebrated in the United States and Canada on Thanksgiving. The Friday after this holiday is called black friday. It is a commercial event invented by shopkeepers in the 1970s to promote sales for the Christmas holidays.

In fact, similar initiatives date back to the 1920s, there have been similar initiatives promoted by one of New York’s largest retail chains. During this day in practice almost all retailers apply a discount policy that attracts consumers a lot. The origin of the name is not very clear. Some think that the name recalls the black ink that at the time was used to record revenue or activity. The ink used for outputs or liabilities was red. Others think that it is because of congestion and traffic caused by the increase in consumers on this particular day.

However, due to the success that this initiative has enjoyed, many retailers anticipate and postpone discounts for up to a week. This initiative is so effective in the United States that it is a benchmark. It indicates that the consumer’s expenditure is predisposed. The statistics of this day are regularly analyzed by various experts in the marketing sector and also by the professionals of the stock exchange. To give an idea of what black friday is you can imagine the rows that are created at the entrances of the various apple stores when the new model of the iphone comes out. In fact, many Americans prefer to get up very early to limit queues by winning the desired item at the cheapest price before stocks finish.

This day, it is normally prepared very carefully by retailers, distributors and manufacturers so that stocks do not run out too quickly. In summary we can therefore describe the black friday as a national (and sometimes international) day of large-scale sales.Like many other traditions, like Halloween this day is also gaining ground in Europe helped by various online macro stores such as Amazon Store or eBay Store for example. There is also another very similar day and falls every Monday after Thanksgiving, this event is called Cyber Monday.
